Former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane has revealed why he has always believed that Sipho Chaine would be a top shot-stopper.
Mabokgwane and Chaine worked together at now-defunct Bloemfontein Celtic between the 2019 and 2021 seasons, when the latter was an understudy. Mabokgwane joined Celtic following his three-season stint at the Buccaneers.
One and a half seasons later, Chaine secured a dream move to the Buccaneers and has since become their number one goalkeeper.
Chaine is also a second choice to Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams in the Bafana Bafana team.
WHAT WORDS OF ADVICE A FORMER ORLANDO PIRATES GOALKEEPER TOLD SIPHO CHAINE
“I worked with Chaine at Bloemfontein Celtic. It was him and [Mondli] Mpoto, I actually made sure that I gave my inputs and advice,โ Mabokgwane told FARPost.

โI actually told him that he will go far and never had a doubt in his ability. He is a very good goalkeeper. The depth is good in terms of him [Melusi] Buthelezi and the other young ones at Pirates.
“I am very proud of Chaine and his progress, and I believe he has been solid and must just keep going.”
JACKSON MABOKGWANE RECALLS HOW THE CURRENT BAFANA BAFANA SHOT-STOPPER HAS ALWAYS LISTENED
“Sipho was playing in the DDC, and obviously, at that time, they thought he was not ready. That’s when I left Pirates, and Celtic needed a goalkeeper to replace [Patrick] Tignyemb. It was a perfect fit for me because I was able to then go to Celtic and do as well as I did.
“But of course, he has always been the one who was humble. Funny enough, he always asked me about Pirates and what was done there and all of that. Every single day he would ask for my advice, but I told him that if he remains humble and works hard, he will go very far, and I still believe he has a lot to achieve.”
