Durban City FC have confirmed the tragic death of one of their players, Sinamandla Zondi, during a league match played on Tuesday night.
It was supposed to be the exciting occasion of the KZN Derby in the Motsepe Foundation Championship between Durban City and Milford FC at the Chatsworth Stadium.
Milford took the lead in the first-half, with Siphosethu Ndlabi scoring the opening goal as they aimed to dent Durban City’s hopes for Betway Premiership promotion.
During an unfortunate incident, Durban City star Zondi collapsed shortly before the match started, an incident that necessitated him being quickly taken away by ambulance and rushed to the Chatsmed Garden Hospital for urgent medical attention.
Tragically, he passed away after arriving at the medical facility. Thereafter, upon Durban City receiving the devastating news, the match was suspended.
