Italian coach Fabio Lopez has opened up on where his likely destination could be following his short stint with Pretoria Callies in the second-tier league.
The UEFA Pro license holder recently left Callies, having taken over the reins at the beginning of the season. Before coming to the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Lopez also worked as a scout for Italian Serie A teams, Fiorentina and Atalanta.
He took charge of 24 matches at Callies with seven wins, six draws and 11 defeats. He has described his stay at the club as part of having a positive experience for his personal growth.
HOW THE ITALIAN COACH EMBRACED THE CHALLENGE OF COACHING AT MOTSEPE FOUNDATION CHAMPIONSHIP
โEvery experience in life is part of personal growth, and the first time in my career that I worked in a second division,โ Lopez told FARPost.
โI coached national teams participating in the World Cup qualifiers for Russia 2018. I have always worked in the first divisions. But in life, you have to have the courage to accept situations where you can test your skills.
โI believe I had a positive experience for my personal growth, I brought out talented young people and we played high-quality football,โ he added.

WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR FABIO LOPEZ AFTER PRETORIA CALLIES’ EXIT?
โAt the moment I am in South Africa and I think I will wait for new offers, obviously in the Premier League and return to the level I have always been at,โ added Lopez.
The 51-year-old has also expressed his desire to coach in the Betway Premiership. โI hope for a solid and clear project where I can contribute to the growth of South African football.โ
He admits that he leaves Callies with some unfinished business, but the team results must come first.
“When you leave a job unfinished, you are never happy obviously, especially for the fantastic relationship built with the players, but the good of the team always comes first. I will continue to be close to Pretoria Callies.”
