The PSL has provided more details following the passing of Durban City FC player Sinamandla Zondi. Zondi passed away at the Chatsmed Garden Hospital in Durban on Tuesday evening.
The 22-year-old collapsed just before his team’s Motsepe Foundation Championship match against Milford FC. He unfortunately passed away at the hospital, resulting in the match being suspended during the half-time break.
The PSL has since provided more information of the tragic incident, also confirming that the log leaders would be resuming with their scheduled fixtures despite being offered an opportunity to postpone.

“Premier Soccer League (PSL) received the devastating news of the passing of Durban City Football Club player Sinamandla Zondi late yesterday,” the PSL said in a statement.

According to the information provided to the League:
- Shortly before the match began, Sinamandla collapsed and was immediately attended to by medical personnel on site.
- Given the seriousness of his condition, he was rushed to Chatsmed Garden Hospital.
- Sadly, he passed away at the hospital shortly before 20h00.

“Upon confirmation of the tragic news, last nightโs match was suspended. The club was offered an opportunity to postpone their upcoming match, but they have opted to play their scheduled fixture this Friday.
“The PSL extends its heartfelt condolences to the Zondi family, his loved ones, and everyone at Durban City Football Club during this profoundly difficult time.”
Meanwhile the league has also announced that in honour of Zondi’s memory, a moment of silence will be observed at all Motsepe Foundation Championship, Betway Premiership and DStv Diski Challenge fixtures this week.
Durban City FC are currently on top of the log with five matches remaining. They will play Pretoria Callies on Friday.
