Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma has opened up on how he handles criticism from the high-demanding Amakhosi fans.
Bvuma has been the Chiefs’ first-choice goalie under the leadership of head coach Nasreddine Nabi. The Tunisian tactician took over the coaching job at the Soweto giants at the start of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership from Moroccan club AS FAR.
In his first few months at the helm, Nabi preferred Fiacre Ntwari between the sticks; however, the ex-TS Galaxy man was relegated to the bench after a string of costly errors. Brandon Petersen also played a handful of games before Bvuma took over.
In recent matches, Bvuma has been given the nod on a regular basis in the goalkeeping department. The Bafana Bafana international has featured in 21 matches in all competitions. He has kept eight clean sheets and conceded 19 goals.
The 29-year-old has been one of the players facing criticism from supporters as Chiefs struggle for a consistent winning form. In the league, Chiefs are winless in their last five matches after last tasting a victory against Magesi FC at the beginning of March.
Meanwhile, the Glamour Boys could end their nine-year trophy drought after booking a spot in the Nedbank Cup, where they’ll face Orlando Pirates at Moses Mabhida Stadium on the 10th of May.

WHAT BRUCE BVUMA SAID ABOUT FACING CRITICISM AT CHIEFS
Bvuma says he takes positives out of the criticism he’s getting from fans because everyone is entitled to their own opinions.
“Any goalkeeper in the world, trust me, with every goal we concede, we always look back and say ‘I could have done better’,” said Bvuma.
“For me, I look at the criticism in a positive way, one thing is that before anyone can say anything about me, I criticise myself, and I look at where I should have done better. So I don’t take it personally, as everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Whatever someone says must not impact how I feel or how I do things because, at the end of the day, I work hard and give my best.
“If my best is not enough, it doesn’t mean that I need to stop working. When someone says something, it is their own opinion because, as I said, for every goal I concede, I look at myself before anyone can say anything. But for me, it doesn’t do anything.
“The criticism is coming out of love because they love the team, we love the team. They are saying whatever they are saying because of the love they have for the team, so it is okay, it is all love.
