Stellenbosch FC highly-rated left-back Fawaaz Basadien has opened up on a dream move he envisions for the future, beyond his time in the Cape Winelands.
For some time now, the Bafana Bafana defender has been sought after, and the Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs, have made no secret of their interest in the player.
Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates have, at some point, also been rumoured to be monitoring the educated left-footer.
However, Stellenbosch secured Basadien’s future last year by locking him into a long-term deal, which means any potential suitor would need to fork out a significant transfer fee to land his signature.
Stellies have transferred a handful of players to Gauteng-based clubs, including Jayden Adams and Iqraam Rayners [both Mamelodi Sundowns] and Deano van Rooyen [Orlando Pirates].
Basadien is one of the key players who could depart the Cape Winelands should Stellies agree to let him go this upcoming transfer window.
BASADIEN ON WHERE HE WILL PLAY NEXT SEASON
When Basadien asked where he would be playing his football next season, he said: “I don’t know, I’m not sure.”
He stated that it was important for him to stay grounded despite all rumours that linked him with big clubs, particularly at the beginning of the season.

“I think for me that’s one of my strong points [ability to remain grounded] because my career hasn’t been easy,” he explained. “I’ve learnt in the hard times and now being at the highest [level], so I’ve experienced a lot of lows.
“For me, it was to remain grounded and know that my contract is here at Stellenbosch. I’m playing for Stellenbosch and just focusing on what I can control. That was the main thing.”
BASADIEN ON DREAM TO PLAY FOR A BIG CLUB
Basadien admitted that, having seen some of his former teammates moving, it is his dream as a football player to eventually make a switch to a big club.
“Definitely, as a player, for your career, that will always be a dream [securing a move to a big club],” he added. “For me personally, I’d like to achieve that as well.
“But for now, my main focus is to help Stellenbosch get to the [CAF Confederation Cup] final and hopefully win the trophy and play until the end of the season.”
