Former Kaizer Chiefs players Lehlohonolo Majoro and Morgan Gould have made surprising picks on who should be named the Coach of the Season.
The duo has joined the debate for the Coach of the Season award as the 2024/25 Betway Premiership campaign is ending in the next few months.
Ex-Chiefs striker Majoro has made an unexpected decision, revealing that Magesi FC coach Owen Da Gama deserves a nod for the prestigious accolade.
The experienced coach took over the coaching role at the Limpopo-based side in January 2025 to replace Clinton Larsen.
Da Gama found Magesi in the relegation zone, and he managed to help the club climb up the league table. Dikwena tsa Meetse are currently sitting 10th on the log standings with 28 points in 24 games.
While acknowledging the impressive work from Da Gama, Majoro also picked Orlando Pirates mentor Jose Riveiro as one of the coaches who can walk away with the award. The Spanish tactician is fighting to win the Betway Premiership and Nedbank Cup with Pirates.
Meanwhile, Morgan Gould has mentioned Polokwane City FC mentor Phuti Mohafe as a hot favourite for the Coach of the Season recognition.
WHAT MAJORO AND GOULD SAID ABOUT THE COACH OF THE SEASON AWARD

“For me, I would say Jose Riveiro deserves to be Coach of the Season, but I also want to commend Owen Da Gama, he has done a great job,” Majoro said on MSW.
“When Clinton Larsen left, people said Magesi would be relegated, but they are competing now, so I would say Owen Da Gama deserves the award.”
In a surprise choice, former Bafana Bafana defender Gould said Mohafe has done a great job with a team that is not made up of stars and deserves the recognition.
“For me, coach Phuti has done what a lot of people would not expect from him. The team that he has is not full of stars; he has one international player [Oswin Appollis], they still manage to get results, and they upset a lot of teams,” Gould said.
“I’m also going to be biased because he’s a South African coach, no one gives him his flowers, and he’ll stand out to win that award.”
