Feisal Salum’s potential reunion with Yanga intensifies

Maverick Tanzanian midfielder Feisal Salum warm up

Maverick Tanzanian midfielder Feisal Salum’s potential return to Young Africans is intensifying amidst growing interest from several other clubs.

Salum has emerged as a prime target for Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi, who previously worked with the midfielder at Yanga.

Nabi transformed Salum’s career by changing his position from a defensive midfielder to an attacking role. The conversion has paid off, as evidenced by Salum’s impressive statistics. The Taifa Stars ace scored 19 goals last season and has already netted four while contributing 14 assists this season.

Adding to the intrigue, Stephane Aziz Ki stood out last season in the Tanzanian league, drawing significant interest from multiple clubs. Yanga retained him for the current season with interest from teams in Libya, Morocco, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia.

With clear indications pointing towards a move for Aziz Ki at the end of the season, Yanga are reportedly keen to welcome back Salum. The midfielder has only a year left on his contract with Azam FC and is reportedly eager for a move. A return to Yanga would be an appealing prospect for the Zanzibar-born midfielder.

WHICH OTHER CLUBS ARE KEEN ON FEISAL SALUM

Azam reportedly informed Chiefs in January that the midfielder’s price was around R40 million. Amakhosi, however, appeared unwilling to meet that asking price and seemingly lost interest in the player.

On the other hand, Fadlu Davids’ Simba SC are known to be keen on the attacker. He has also been linked to Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca. However, with Rulani Mokwena, a firm admirer of Salum, on his way out of the Casablanca side, whether they will pursue the 27-year-old remains to be seen.

Salum joined the Chamazi Millionaires from rivals Yanga in 2023 on a three-year deal. Azam FC spokesperson Thabit Zacharia is on record saying that if the player decides to leave, that will be his choice.”

“We are not stopping him from leaving,” Zacharia told FARPost. “We have no plans to let Feisal go. But if a team makes an offer that meets our expectations, we will not stand in his way. However, as of now, we have not received any offers from any club.”
