Stellenbosch FC goalkeeper Lee Langeveldt has revealed the club’s head coach Steve Barker’s next ambitious target after their participation in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Stellies’ run in the continental competition came to an end on Sunday after they were eliminated by Simba SC with a 1-0 aggregate score in the semi-final.
However, the Cape Winelands side achieved a famous milestone by reaching the semi-finals of the Confederation Cup in their maiden campaign. The club has rapidly improved in recent seasons, competing strongly in all competitions in the domestic league.
Langeveldt says Barker recently discussed with his troops to set their sights on the Betway Premiership title, building on the resilience they’ve demonstrated in other competitions.
Stellies won the Carling Knockout Cup in the 2023/24 season. They also finished within the top three, qualifying for the Confederation Cup during that campaign.

LANGEVELDT – ‘THE NEXT STEP IS TO WIN THE LEAGUE’
“Coach mentioned the other day that we won the cup and we have finished in the top three,” said Langeveldt.
“The next step is to win the league now. Ever since we got promoted, it was always one of our goals to win the cup, to win the league. And I think we have a good enough team to push for the league.”
Langeveldt lauded coach Barker, highlighting his role in transforming Stellenbosch into a formidable force, having built the team from the ground up.
“He’s amazing. I always say that part of the reason we are where we are now is Barker. He plays a big role in how we play. He understands the players and always gets what he wants from them,” added Langeveldt.
“Part of the reason we are where we are is because of him. Hopefully, other teams can also do the same, give the coach [enough] time and build something with him.”
