Wydad Casablanca have addressed Rulani Mokwena’s compensation as he prepares to exit the club at the end of the season.
Mokwena joined the Casablanca giants in July 2024 on a three-year deal and was tasked with reawakening Morocco’s sleeping giant.
Nine months later, the 38-year-old coach is leaving after an inconsistent season. On Tuesday, the club announced it would grant him special leave until the end of the Botola Pro season. Furthermore, Wydad AC revealed plans to part ways with the former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor next month.
The outspoken coach was provided a budget to sign new players, and as it stands, they are currently in third place, improving from last season’s sixth-place finish. Six consecutive draws in the league have hindered their progress toward achieving their targets.
Wydad currently sits in third place but is six points behind second-placed AS FAR Rabat, with only three games left in the season. In all likelihood, they will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup football next season.
However, the club’s minimum goal was to return to the premier inter-club competition—the CAF Champions League—next season.

HOW WILL WYDAD ATHLETIC CLUB COMPENSATE RULANI MOKWENA?
In confirming the latest developments, the club also clarified the compensation issue. The statement revealed that besides his salary for the remainder of the season, there would be no further compensation.
“Wydad Athletic Club’s management confirms that the contractual termination of coach Rulani Mokwena will be officially completed immediately after the end of the professional league in compliance with the contract terms established between the two parties,” reads the club statement.
It also emphasises that this decision will not involve any financial compensation, as is being circulated, except for the payment of the monthly wages due only.”
Amid psychological pressures related to the role, Mokwena will step aside, allowing sporting director Amine Benhachem to take the helm and lead the team.
