‘I’ll accept that…’ Maart on Chiefs contract situation

With the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season nearing its end, Kaizer Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart has addressed his contract situation with the Soweto giants.

Maart has been a regular feature in the Chiefs’ starting line-up in the central-midfield position under the guidance of head coach Nasreddine Nabi.

The Tunisian tactician took over the coaching role at Amakhosi in July 2024 from Moroccan giants AS FAR.
Under Nabi, the 29-year-old has featured in 30 matches across all competitions with two goals and three assists to his name.

Maart has been with the Naturena-based side for three seasons after joining from Sekhukhune United at the start of the 2022/23 campaign.

In recent weeks, rumours have been rife about the future of Maart at Chiefs, with his existing contract set to expire in June 2025.

Some reports have indicated that the Orlando Pirates youth product has signed a contract extension with Chiefs. However, Maart says he hasn’t signed a contract renewal.

“To be honest, you know how social media is, people make up their own things and stuff. I don’t know anything about the contract because I haven’t signed it,” said Maart.

“For me, wherever the almighty puts you in life, you must accept it because you don’t know if you’ll be playing here or there.

“So wherever the almighty puts me, as a footballer I’ll continue doing what I do best, which is playing football. As I said, wherever the almighty puts me, my decision is that I’ll accept that and continue doing my best. That’s it,” he added.

Meanwhile, Maart will be aiming to collect maximum points in the Soweto Derby when Kaizer Chiefs lock horns with Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 03 May. Kickoff is at 15:00.
