Sekhukhune United in-form winger Keletso Makgalwa has reflected on his rise in the Betway Premiership, stating that “you can’t keep a good man down”.

The 28-year-old was instrumental in Sekhukhune pulling off a major upset against Orlando Pirates in a league game at Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Wednesday night.

Makgalwa provided an assist to Tresor Tshibwabwa as Babina Noko defeated Pirates 1-0. The talented attacker took his number of assists in the current campaign to 11 in 30 matches across all competitions. He also registered for goals under his name during his first season with Sekhukhune.

The former SA junior international joined the Limpopo-based side in July 2024 from Upington City FC in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

In his first season back in the top-flight, Makgalwa has proven his qualities to eliminate defenders to create opportunities and score goals.

Before spending the previous season with Upington City, the skilful winger was in the books of Mamelodi Sundowns. He parted ways with the Brazilians at the start of the last campaign.

Makgalwa, who bagged the Man of the Match award against Pirates, thanked the football lovers who continued to show him support during his difficult times.

‘I’d like to thank God for the talent, I’d also like to thank the CEO, Mr Jonas [Malatji], and all the Sekhukhune United fans,” said Makgalwa on SuperSport TV.

“This award is for the people at home, in Mokopane, Mahwelereng. I’m so thankful for them and the support they gave me while I was down. You can’t keep a good man down.

“But the game [against Bucs] overall was a difficult one, and we managed to get a win. The new coach [Eric Tinkler] came in and helped us a lot, and I want to thank him also.

“We agreed from at training that in the first 45 minutes of the match, we’re going to let them have the ball and catch them on a counter-attack. And in the second-half the game opened up, and we were able to catch them with our speed.”
