Ex-Chiefs goalie Akpeyi offers transfer advice to Nwabali

Chippa United's number one Stanley Nwabali

Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has offered candid advice to Chippa United’s shot-stopper Stanley Nwabali regarding his potential next transfer move.

Nwabali, who joined Chippa United in 2022, will no doubt be linked with a big-money move in the next transfer window.

The 28-year-old goalkeeper started attracting interest after the last AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast. Nwabali entered the continental showpiece as an unestablished name.

But after finishing with four clean sheets and only four goals conceded, he attracted the attention of several clubs. Clubs that include Queens Park Rangers of England and Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League have all been mentioned as potential suitors.

At local level, Betway Premiership giants Kaizer Chiefs were linked with the gangly Nigerian goalminder. Nwabali is in his third season at Chippa United, the same club that worked as a springboard for Akpeyi before his breakthrough to Amakhosi.

WHAT DANIEL AKPEYI SAID TO CHIPPA UNITED’S NUMBER ONE, NWABALI

In an interview with FARPost, Akpeyi shared his thoughts on how his compatriots can tread a clear path and how to reach the top levels.

โ€œYou can have as much talent as you want, you can have so many clubs knocking on your door. But if you donโ€™t work hard, then you are not prepared to take them [opportunities].

“Your career can take a wrong and a difficult direction if everything does not go down to working hard. I was at Chippa United for four years. And I worked hard for myself to get recognised and landed a move to Chiefs.

โ€œAs a goalkeeper who wants to rise, you need to keep challenging yourself. You must accept that you can learn at any age. If you keep challenging yourself and you keep trying to get better, this is how you actually improve yourself.

“He [Nwabali] has done well for himself and the national team. I think he has already established himself well enough to make a move. But he has to make sure the time is right and that the club is also right. I think this is the only way to have a successful career and actually make the most of it.”
