Former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana defender Fabian McCarthy has made an interesting pick for his 2024/25 Defender of the Season.
The Betway Premiership season is close to reaching its end now, with Mamelodi Sundowns looking likely to defend their title.
Besides Orlando Pirates and Sundowns battling for the Premiership title, this season has seen some interesting performances from clubs such as Sekhukhune United, Stellenbosch FC, TS Galaxy and Polokwane City FC.

The former South African international has picked Stellenbosch FC defender Thabo Moloisane as the best in his position.
“Stellenbosch have done so well, and with him in the heart of that defence, you can see his role,” McCarthy told FARPost.
“Obviously [Nkosinathi] Sibisi is there and has been consistent. Grant [Kekana], I like him. His calmness reminds me now and then of myself. But I will go for Moloisane. He is good with the statistics and everything; he is good.
“He has also been doing well in CAF competitions. But obviously it would depend on the voting and all that. But I just have that feeling that it was his best season.”

Meanwhile, the 47-year-old will host a four-day festival aimed at unearthing raw talent for further development in Vryburg, North West. The festival will include distance running, golf and a Soweto Derby screening.
Orlando Pirates’ DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] team, led by club legend Joseph Makhanya, will also take on a local side. A legendary team led by McCarthy will also be in action. Former Amakhosi goal poacher Pollen ‘Trompies’ Ndlanya and shot-stopper, Brian Baloyi, James Mothibi and Eddie Dinha, among others, will be in action.
