SuperSport United interim coach Andre Arendse has issued an update on the absence of midfielder Lebohang Maboe from the team.

Maboe, who is on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, was a notable absentee when SuperSport beat Chippa United in a Betway Premiership match at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday evening.

He was taken off during the half-time break of their 1-1 draw against Polokwane City FC late last month.

Arendse has since confirmed that Maboe will take a few weeks to recover from his injury. However, he did not disclose if Maboe’s season could be over as Matsatsantsa are now only left with four games to play.

WHY LEBOGANG MABOE WAS ABSENT FROM SUPERSPORT UNITED TEAM ON SATURDAY

“No Lebo today [Saturday]. Lebo is carrying an injury that’s keeping him out for a few weeks,” said Arendse. “But it wasn’t noticeable. Whoever came in for him performed perfectly well. That’s how we do it. Lyle [Lakay] was missing from the last game.

“He came in to replace Lebo in a different position on the field but he got an assist tonight for me. His distribution from the set-pieces was fantastic, and he was a big part of the team.”

ANDRE ARENDSE TO USE THE UPCOMING BREAK TO ASSESS INJURED PLAYERS IN HIS TEAM

“What’s nice is that we have another title break now. We have the time, and tomorrow [Sunday] morning, we will have a look at our injury list, then see who is carrying some niggles or some knocks. We will then work on the training ground to get the team where I want them to be for our next game.”

Meanwhile, the win against Chippa United on Saturday meant SuperSport are now 12th on the Betway Premiership log.

Following weeks of battling relegation, the three-time Premiership champions are four points below the top eight spot, which is currently occupied by Chippa United.
