Kaizer Chiefs reserve side coach Vela Khumalo has dedicated their DStv Diski Challenge title victory as a gift to club’s chairman Kaizer Motaung and the Khosi Nation.
Chiefs’ reserve side clinched the DDC title last week with a game to spare. On Sunday, they concluded their successful season with a resounding 5-0 triumph over AmaZulu FC at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto.
Manqoba Ozoemena and Naledi Hlongwane both scored twice, with Siphesihle Tati adding another goal.
Despite the dominant scoreline, Khumalo believes his team wasn’t at their absolute best.
“Finally, we are the champions, it’s official, not much of a good performance today but five goals, you cannot falter them,” said Khumalo after the match.
“Let’s go play the [Premier League Next Generation Cup] tournament in India.”
CHIEFS DDC COACH KHUMALO DELIGHTED TO REACH CLUB’S TARGET OF 70 POINTS
Khumalo expressed his satisfaction at achieving their target of 70 points, finishing the reserve league season exactly on that mark.
He reiterated that winning the title was a present for the chairman and the club’s loyal supporters.
“Importantly, we wanted 70 points, we are at 70 which is good,” added Khumalo.
“One takes this one and say, we’re giving it to our chairman, we’re giving it to our supporters, we’re giving it to everyone at the village, I cannot mention them, I did that last Saturday.
“So, we’re happy, we’re in a good space. Congratulations to everybody but this is for you chairman.”

Meanwhile, on the same day, Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows drew 1-1, sharing the spoils at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium.
Masandawana ended the season in third place with 58 points after 28 league games.
Stellenbosch FC downed TS Galaxy 1-0 at Dobsonville Stadium, ending the campaign as the runners-up with 63 points from 28 games.
And Joseph Makhanya’s Orlando Pirates finished fifth with 47 points from 28 matches.
