Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has applauded the club’s sporting director, Flemming Berg, for what he says is ‘big work’ of creating quality depth.
Berg has been serving in the role of sporting director since 2022 after leaving his role as Head of Elite Football Development at the Danish Football Association. He also spent seven years at English club Chelsea as chief international scout from 2005 to 2012.
At the Betway Premiership defending champions, Berg works across all the structures, including the academy, development, and senior team.
WHY MAMELODI SUNDOWNS’ COACH HAS APPLAUDED FLEMMING BERG’S WORK
With Sundowns holding a commanding 12-point lead over Orlando Pirates in the title race, seemingly on course to defend their championship, Cardoso acknowledged the Sporting Director’s contributions.
“I have no problems with players. I have total confidence in anyone. So I think there was a big work from Mr Flemming [Berg] building this group of players that gives us the sense that anyone can play a PSL match,” said Cardoso.

“If we have to change some players because of managing fatigue, we feel very comfortable doing it because we are comfortable with everybody. I think that’s one of the values that we have developed in the locker room was trust.
“Trust in the work we do and trust in ourselves and the players. So when we replace any player, we don’t feel that the team suffers emotionally by losing anyone because they can count on the other one,” added Cardoso.
“But we played with great respect and humility. Being humble is a value that is important. Being too humble is not too good, but being humble is an important value.”
Meanwhile, Sundowns are only two wins away from clinching their eighth league title. They currently top the table with four matches to go.
