International move imminent? Xulu & agent spotted jetting off abroad

Former SuperSport United defender Siyanda Xulu and his agent Lebohang Mashishi have been spotted leaving the country with an international move appearing likely.

‘Magazi’ as he’s widely-known, has been a free agent since he parted ways with Betway Premiership side Matsatsantsa at the end of the previous season.

The Bafana Bafana defender spent only one season with the Swanky Boys having joined them in July 2023 from the Azerbaijan Premier League outfit Turan Tovuz.

He featured 16 times in all competitions for the Tshwane-based side under coach Gavin Hunt. During this stint with SuperSport, Xulu was part of the South African national team that claimed the bronze medal at the AFCON held in Ivory Coast last year.

He has been seen flying out of the country along with his representative Mashishi, hinting at a possible move to an international club.

XULU APPEARS TO HAVE FOUND A CLUB ABROAD

“It appears he’s signed for a club abroad,” a source close to the player told FARPost.

In September last year, Xulu’s move to the Saudi Pro League club Al Wehda FC collapsed at the eleventh hour. Former Orlando Pirates coach Josef Zinnbauer was managing Wehda at the time.

While many within the club, including the president, were supportive of the move, it encountered a hurdle when Zinnbauer, having authority on player transfers, decided against the signing.

Despite the failed move to Al Wehda, Xulu still had other suitors in Saudi, with his camp holding talks with two other clubs. Ultimately, no deal materialised, and he remained without a club until this point.

In the past few months, several clubs, both locally and internationally, have enquired about the Durban-born centre-back, with no firm offers made.

Throughout his career, Xulu has turned out for Mamelodi Sundowns, Rostov, Kaizer Chiefs, Maritzburg United [now Durban City FC], Hapoel Tel Aviv and Turan Tovuz.
