Golden Arrows head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has offered his perspective on the club’s relegation battle in the wake of a 2-1 Betway Premiership loss to Orlando Pirates.

Directly addressing the growing concerns, Mngqithi explained why the threat of relegation is not causing him to panic, stating his position clearly.

The KZN-based side lost to Pirates in a league encounter at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Tuesday as they continue their fight to survive relegation.

Arrows are occupying the 14th position on the log with 26 points in 24 matches played. They have won six games, drawn eight and lost ten times.

With the 2024/25 season coming to an end, Arrows are desperate to start collecting maximum points and move out of the drop zone.

Abafana Bes’thende will be hoping to benefit from Mngqithi’s vast experience to turn their fortunes. The 52-year-old rejoined Arrows in March 2025 after spending a few months without a club as he parted ways with Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of last year.

Mngqithi spent over a decade with Sundowns and won a handful of major trophies, including the 2016 CAF Champions League.

The former Chippa United mentor says he’s not panicking about the situation at Arrows because they need just one victory to turn things around.

“I think in our last six matches, the only match that I thought a draw could have been a better result is Stellenbosch [FC]. I honestly think that all the other matches we played, we should have won them,” Mngqithi said.

“Unfortunately, we haven’t been scoring, and I don’t know why, because some of the players that are missing the chances are the ones you’d trust the most to score.

“Personally, I’m not panicking. I still believe in the process, and I think this team is improving tremendously. The matrix and physical, and technical data are looking good.

“Unfortunately, when you don’t win your matches, you’ll forever have to explain what is happening, but I know we’re just a game away from turning things around.”
