With the season slowly approaching the end, the outgoing Orlando Pirates coach, Jose Riveiro, has made a promise to the Buccaneers’ faithful about the incoming coach.
The Spanish tactician will step down as the Pirates mentor at the end of the season, ending a successful three-year stint he’s had with the club, having arrived in 2022.
Riveiro departs after a fruitful stint in which he led the team to five trophies – three MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cups – a haul that etches his name into the club’s record books.
He still has an opportunity to add to his trophy collection when his side faces Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup final on Saturday, 10 May at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
While they appear to be losing ground to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Betway Premiership race, they technically retain a mathematical chance of winning the league title.
Riveiro has highlighted that Pirates’ success during his spell has been a collective effort, giving credit to the hard work of the technical team and everyone at the club, not just himself.

Regarding the future, he encouraged fans not to be concerned, stating that his successor will continue the progress made because of the support structure the club will provide him.
RIVEIRO ENCOURAGES PIRATES FANS NOT TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT FUTURE
“This is a club project, not a Riveiro project, I’ve answered this question many, many times,” said Riveiro at Moses Mabhida Stadium after Pirates’ 2-1 victory over Golden Arrows on Tuesday.
“The club knows what they are doing. Whoever is coming is gonna be the right person and will have the support and will find himself in a good platform to continue where we’re going to stop at the end of the season.
“Football is a cycle, and Orlando Pirates is a huge institution; nothing is going to change because Riveiro is in or out.
“The Buccaneers don’t need to be concerned about that because the future is brilliant for the club, and it’s gonna be alright.”
