Chippa United coach Thabo September has set the record straight on his future at the club as the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season reaches its end.
September has been steering the ship at the Chilli Boys in the second round of the season after the head coach, Kwanele Kopo, stepped down from his position.
The 42-year-old mentor was given the coaching role at Chippa with Mabhuti Khayeza serving as his assistant coach. Before assuming his current role with the Gqeberha-based outfit, September was the assistant to Kopo.
After replacing Kopo, September has managed to keep Chippa out of the relegation zone, and they are fighting to finish in the top eight.
The Chippa Mpengesi-owned team is sitting eighth on the league table with 30 points after winning eight league matches, drawing six, and losing on 12 occasions in 26 matches played.
On Tuesday night, Chippa suffered a 3-0 defeat against log-leaders Mamelodi Sundowns at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
WHAT THABO SEPTEMBER SAID ABOUT HIS FUTURE AT CHIPPA UNITED

Speaking after the loss against Sundowns, the former SuperSport United captain revealed that his contract with Chippa is expiring at the end of the season, but there are ‘signs’ that he will stay.
“We will need to refresh the squad [next season] but I feel like we’ve got a good group, a good mixture of young and experienced players,” September said.
“I’m happy with how the younger ones came in the second-half of the season, it’s really motivating and encouraging for us as a technical team and the football club.
“So we will just need to go into the transfer market and look for a better quality to beef up our squad if we want to have a good season next season.
“As for me, we haven’t started having discussions yet about my contract, my contract ends now [at the end of the season]. I have a two-year option on my contract, and we will start the talks. The signs are there for me to stay, but we haven’t sat down and discussed the contract.”
