Kaze reveals what Chiefs need to do to overcome Pirates in Nedbank final

Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Cedric Kaze

Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Cedric Kaze has revealed what Amakhosi must do to overcome Orlando Pirates in Saturdayโ€™s Nedbank Cup final.

The sold-out Soweto Derby final will take place at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, 10 May 2025. Kick Off is 15h30.

Amakhosi will be playing in this tournament’s finals for the first time in six years, while the Buccaneers are the defending champions. The Bucs are on the cusp of making history by becoming the first team to win the Nedbank Cup title three times in a row.

Chiefs come into this final showdown as wounded tigers, having suffered a 2-1 defeat to Pirates last Saturday in their Betway Premiership tie.

In the last five Soweto Derbies across all competitions, Chiefs have lost all the games to Pirates. That feat also saw Jose Riveiro match Stuart Baxter’s record for the most derby victories [five] in the PSL era.

CEDRIC KAZE ON HOW KAIZER CHIEFS SHOULD APPROACH THE FINAL AGAINST ORLANDO PIRATES

Kaze stated that they will adopt a different strategy for the cup final compared to last weekend’s league match. The Burundian mentor emphasised that their method will be straightforward as they must be effective in front of goal and defend solidly.

“I think that it has to be a different approach to the league game last Saturday. This is like a knockout game. But there is a trophy at the end of the 90 minutes, plus extra time or penalties,” said Kaze.

“The approach is going to be simple. You have to be efficient in the two different boxes: in your own box by defending well, and in your opponent’s box by scoring.

“It’s true that this kind of game, when it’s a final, has a kind of pressure that sometimes takes the flavour out of the beautiful game because nobody wants to lose.

“But as I said, it’s very simple: we have to be efficient, defend well, and score when we have the opportunity to do so.”
