SAFA addresses allegations of R10 million payment to Jordaan

SAFA president Danny Jordaan

SAFA has addressed claims that Danny Jordaan, its president, was paid R10 million by the association in 2020, allegedly without NEC consent.

The SA football governing body insists that the accusation is part of a continuing campaign against the SAFA president intended to instigate a change in leadership.

However, SAFA has stepped up to label the accusation as “malicious and mischievous” against its president, Jordaan, by a Sunday newspaper.

The association mentioned that this issue arose from an individual who misunderstood the financial reports and shared them with external parties to create this misleading story.

SAFA’S OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON Danny JORDAAN RECEIVING R10 MILLION FROM THE ASSOCIATION

“These allegations are malicious and mischievous, and quite frankly, laughable,” reads the statement. “It is inconceivable that the basis of this latest smear emanates from someone who accessed the SAFA financial system illegally, misinterpreted the reports they generated, and leaked them to third parties in a bid to generate this false narrative.

“The report that was obtained illegally relates to all payments made to the President since 2007. It covers a period of 18 years during which time Dr Danny Jordaan held various positions in SAFA as CEO until 2008, CEO of the World Cup Bid up until 2006 and CEO of the FIFA World Cup from 2006 until 2011.ย

“It also includes SAFA meeting allowances and honorariums, which were paid to all NEC members over a period exceeding 13 years.

THE BREAKDOWN IS BELOW OF THE SAFA REPORT

“1. Honorarium and NEC meeting allowance paid to all NEC members

“2. โ Separation payments between SAFA and the President when he returned from deployment from the 2010 FIFA World Cup LOC

“3. โ Bonus paid to the Three Musketeers (Dr Danny Jordaan, Dr Irvin Khoza and Dr Molefi Oliphant) for securing the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which is a substantial portion of the amount that is being bandied about.

“This also includes payments from CAF, which are paid into the SAFA account for transfer to Dr Jordaan. These payments are made via the Associationโ€™s bank accounts. All the payments made to the President over this period were properly authorised.

“All the above were also properly approved by the NEC at the time.”
