Betway Premiership tie between Mamelodi Sundowns and Stellenbosch FC at Lucas Moripe Stadium

Mamelodi Sundowns are one point away from clinching their eighth consecutive PSL title following their 3-0 win over Stellenbosch FC on Sunday afternoon.

The Betway Premiership match between Bafana Ba Style and the Cape Winelands-based outfit took place at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Tshwane.

Masandawana started the game like a house on fire with Lucas Ribeiro breaking the deadlock six minutes into the showdown. This was Ribeiro’s 14th league goal this season in 25 appearances. He also contributed eight assists in the process.

In the 12th minute, Iqraam Rayners added to the scoreline to make it 2-0. The Bafana Bafana international has now scored 13 Betway Premiership goals and weighed in with nine assists.

Just six minutes after the restart, Arthur Sales scored the third goal for the CAF Champions League finalists. The Brazilian-born forward has found the back of the net on six occasions in the league with eight assists to his name.

The match went into the interval with Sundowns leading comfortably with a 3-0 scoreline against Stellies.

Masandawana came back in the second stanza with the same spirit and continued to take total control of the contest.

Stellenbosch failed to respond to the Miguel Cardoso-coached side’s pressure. Therefore, the game ended 3-0 in favour of the hosts, Sundowns.

As a result, Bafana Ba Style needs a point from their final two games to be crowned the Betway Premiership champions.

Currently, Sundowns are placed at the top of the table with 67 points after 26 matches. They are 15 points ahead of the second-placed Orlando Pirates.

Masandawana’s last two league games will be against Chippa United on the road on Wednesday, 14 May and Magesi FC at home on Saturday, 17 May 2025.
