Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has spoken out on the disappointment of the Nedbank Cup final, stating that the pity party must end.

The Buccaneers suffered a 2-1 defeat in the final of the Nedbank Cup against Kaizer Chiefs at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Chiefs had an impressive start to the highly-anticipated match, creating most goal-scoring opportunities. The Glamour Boys broke the deadlock in the 10th minute from a penalty spot through Gaston Sirino.

Pirates made a quick response seven minutes later after Evidence Makgopa scored a header from Deon Hotto’s free-kick.

After the match was seemingly heading for extra-time, Chiefs found the winning goal courtesy of their captain, Yusuf Maart, in the 80th minute.

The massive victory ended Amakhosi’s nine-trophy drought, having last won a piece of silverware back in 2015. On the other hand, Pirates failed to defend the Nedbank Cup after winning it for the past two seasons.

Following the heart-breaking defeat, Jose Riveiro says there’s no time to be sad about the cup final loss as they have a league game against Golden Arrows on Tuesday night.

“We have to win against Arrows in the next few days and TS Galaxy. We don’t have time to feel sorry, the pity party must end tomorrow morning [Sunday] and start to prepare for the next match,” Riveiro said.

“It’s important to win the next match after losing against Chiefs. We tried everything to be the champions, we tried to be champions back-to-back in all competitions we are in, but Chiefs did it better than us in some particular moments, so that’s why they are celebrating.”

In the past few weeks, the Ghosts also crashed out of the CAF Champions League after losing against Pyramids FC 3-2 on aggregate.

Meanwhile, with the chase for the Betway Premiership slowly slipping away. Pirates could finish the season with just one trophy, having won the MTN8 earlier in the season.
