Following Orlando Pirates’ announcement that Jose Riveiro will leave the Soweto giants before the conclusion of his contract, the Spanish coach has been linked with a new club.
On Monday morning, the Buccaneers released a statement, revealing that Riveiro requested to leave before the expiry of his contract in June 2025.
The highly-rated mentor is set to sit on the bench for the last time when Pirates face Golden Arrows in the Betway Premiership at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday night.
Pirates’ announcement comes after they suffered a 2-1 defeat against Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup final at Moses Mabhida Stadium this past weekend.
The past few weeks have been challenging for the Ghost as they were also knocked out of the CAF Champions League semi-final by Pyramids FC a fortnight ago.
Meanwhile, Pirates initially disclosed the departure of their coach last month, stating that he would step down upon the expiration of his existing contract.
JOSE RIVEIRO LINKED WITH AL AHLY

A media outlet in Egypt, Yalla Kora, has reported that Jose Riveiro will arrive at Al Ahly this week to finalise his deal with the North African giants.
Al Ahly are on the hunt for a coach to replace Marcel Koller, who was fired last month after the team’s exit from the semi-finals of the Champions League.
Riveiro faced Al Ahly with Pirates twice in the group stages of the continental tournament this season, where he defeated them 2-1 in Cairo Stadium and played to a goalless draw at Orlando Stadium.
Having proven his cup-winning pedigree in South Africa, the 49-year-old coach could be a major coup for Al Ahly. In his three seasons at Pirates, Riveiro won five domestic cups and finished second on the log for two seasons in a row. Under the tactician, the Soweto giants won three successive MTN8 trophies and two Nedbank Cup titles.
