Stellenbosch FC defender Fawaaz Basadien has revealed the main reason he’s enjoying his football at the moment.
A pivotal figure in the Cape Winelands side’s rise, the 28-year-old has been one of their key players in recent seasons.
Joining Stellies at the beginning of the 2022/23 season from the now-defunct Moroka Swallows, he quickly established himself as a regular left-back for the Steve Barker-coached side.
He has played 108 games, scoring eight goals and registering 17 assists since joining the Western Cape outfit.
Competing with Aubrey Modiba for the left-back role, Basadien has become a more regular face in Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana team lately.
He says his regular presence in the national team is what he enjoys most about his footballing career right now.

“Once a team does well, the individuals [are noticed], that’s why I’m part of the Bafana Bafana team.”
