Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef has responded to the reports that he, alongside head coach Nasreddine Nabi and the rest of the technical team, are set to leave the club.

Nabi and his technical team recently clinched the Nedbank Cup after beating rivals Orlando Pirates at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, breaking the nine-year trophy drought.

But despite bringing joy to Natutena, Nabi’s future at the club remains uncertain, according to a report by the Sunday Times.

REPORTS OF AN EXIT AT KAIZER CHIEFS COME AS A SURPRISE FOR THE ASSISTANT COACH

Speaking on SABC Radio 2000’s Sports Show, Game on, Ben Youssef says the reports came as a surprise.

“To be honest with you, our contracts are two years and with a one-year extension,” he told the radio station.

“Like you, we saw [the reports] on social media. To be honest with you, yesterday, I received a lot of calls asking about that.

“I don’t know where it’s coming from. But I think the only one who can answer this question is Mr Kaizer [Motaung], the chairman,” he added.

Ben Youssef has also opened up on his working relationship with the head coach. They worked together at Young Africans in Tanzania as well as AS FAR in Morocco.

“To be honest with you, with coach Nabi now, it’s our third season working together. We are a family, not a coach and assistant coach,” declared Ben Youssef.

“He gives us a lot of responsibilities to do in the team, with the training and the game. There is a lot of confidence between us. He trusts us and he believes in us.

“He knows what we do for the team. So the relationship in the technical bench is like family because we know each other. It’s not the first season that we have worked together.
