Mamelodi Sundowns have clinched their eighth consecutive PSL title after defeating Chippa United 3-0 at Buffalo City Stadium on Wednesday night.

Bafana Ba Style came into this clash needing only one point to be crowned the 2024/25 Betway Premiership champions.

Masandawana looked bright in the early stages of the showpiece as they attacked in numbers.

Iqraam Rayners opened the scoring in the 11th minute of the match to give the Tshwane-based outfit a lead.

The former Stellenbosch FC frontman has found the back of the net on 14 occasions in the league and contributed nine assists.

As a result, Rayners is now equal in goals with his teammates Lucas Ribeiro, who also has 14 league goals.

The Chilli Boys improved as the first half wore on, and tried their best to level matters, however, their efforts were not good enough.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS WENT INTO HALF-TIME LEADING CHIPPA UNITED

The match went into the half-time break with the Brazilians leading 1-0.

In the second stanza, Sundowns continued where they left off, taking command of the encounter.

The hosts couldn’t do much to overcome Sundowns’ supremacy despite creating a few scoring opportunities.

In the 69th minute, Arthur Sales scored the second goal for Sundowns, and completed his brace in the 89th minute of the game. He scored eight league goals, and he has provided eight assists.

The Miguel Cardoso-coached outfit have never suffered a league game defeat against Chippa since the Gqeberha-based side’s promotion in 2012. They played 24 games, winning 17, and drawing seven.

In the end, it was Sundowns who claimed all three points away from home. As things stand, Masandawana have accumulated 70 points after 27 games.

Meanwhile, Chippa are currently placed eighth on the log standings with 30 points from 27 outings.

Thabo September’s boys couldn’t consolidate their top-eight spot, as they are still sitting on the same number of points with Kaizer Chiefs and Marumo Gallants, who are placed ninth and 10th, respectively.
