Orlando Pirates are set to lose another key member of their technical team following the exit of head coach Jose Riveiro.

Pirates bid farewell to Riveiro on Tuesday night when they faced Golden Arrows in the Betway Premiership at Orlando Stadium. The Buccaneers claimed a 3-0 victory over Arrows with goals from Tshegofatso Mabasa, Bandile Shandu, and Kabelo Dlamini.

In a match against the KZN-based side, the Spanish coach was in charge of Pirates for the last time after the Soweto giants announced that the tactician had requested to leave before the expiry of his contract to join a new club.

Riveiro’s contract with Pirates was supposed to come to an end in June 2025. The 49-year-old mentor joined the Sea Robbers in July 2022, and he has since gone on to win the hearts of many football lovers after winning two Nedbank Cup titles and three successive MTN8 trophies.

Meanwhile, reports have suggested that Riveiro is on his way to join Egyptian giants Al Ahly with negotiations set to continue this week.

With the Ghosts undergoing changes in their coaching department, another technical member, Carlos Nodar Paz, who joined the club at the start of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership, is heading out the exit door. Carlos was serving in a dual role as a physical trainer and assistant coach.

Pirates’ strength and conditioning coach Helmy Gueldich took to Instagram to wish the assistant coach well and said that he wishes they could meet in the CAF Champions League.

“I’m grateful for every moment with you, not just as teammates but as true brothers,” Helmy Gueldich said to Carlos on Instagram.

“The bond we built goes beyond football. Sooner or later, our time to create miracles together will come, and when it does, the world will feel it.

The former Young Africans fitness coach further revealed the wish to meet Carlos in the Champions League, sparking the rumours that he might join Riveiro at Al Ahly. “I wish you all the best. I will beat you in the CAF Champions League next season.”
