SuperSport slip up as CT City finally taste victory

SuperSport United suffered a defeat in the Betway Premiership while Cape Town City FC secured their first win since January.

Matsatsantsa lost 2-1 at the hands of Stellenbosch FC at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch on Saturday afternoon. Sanele Barns and Devin Titus’ goals propelled the Western Cape side to a victory, while Titus scored an own goal, pulling one back for the visitors.

While this was a return to winning for Stellies, having lost their previous match to Mamelodi Sundowns, the Spartansโ€™ four-match unbeaten run came to an end.

SuperSport are 14th in the league standings with 26 points after 25 matches, while the Steve Barker-coached side sit third with 47 points after 27 games.

Meanwhile, Cape Town City picked up a 2-0 triumph over Polokwane City FC courtesy of Darwin Gonzalez and Jaedin Rhodesโ€™ strikes in a match played at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The Citizens had not tasted a victory since 17 January this year when they defeated Richards Bay FC at the Cape Town Stadium.

Since then, the John Comitis-owned side has suffered nine league defeats, drawing on four occasions in 13 matches they have played.

The match between Marumo Gallants and Chippa United at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium ended in a 1-1 draw, with Sekela Sithole scoring for Gallants and Seun Ndlovu for Chippa.

Bahlabane Ba Ntwa occupy the 10th place after racking up 31 points from 27 matches, while the Chilli Boys remain eighth with 31 points after 28 games.

In Durban, Richards Bay FC and Golden Arrows shared the spoils after a goalless draw at the King Zwelithini Stadium in the KZN Derby. The Natal Rich Boyz are now officially safe from the relegation Playoffs spot as they sit 11th with 30 points after 27 games, while Abafana Besโ€™thende occupy 13th position, having collected 27 points after 26 matches.
