Following Clube Desportivo de Tondela’s promotion to the top-flight, Sphephelo Yaya Sithole’s immediate future has been decided.

Sithole spent the season at Gil Vicente in the Portuguese top division on loan from CD Tondela.

The loan spell of the Bafana Bafana star with Vicente concludes next month. With a year remaining on his contract with Tondela, the club is likely to want to utilise him in the top flight next season.

“For Yaya, it’s simple because they love him at Tondela, they compromised because he was not going to play another season in the second division,” digital scout, Prince Sobayeni, told FARPost.

WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR YAYA SITHOLE

According to information gathered by FARPost, Tondela has already expressed its intention to retain its player. The club’s management has assured him of a significant role in the team.

After a challenging loan spell at Gil Vicente, marred by injuries, Sithole is ready to make his mark at Tondela next season.

As the South African national football star transitions back, speculation has arisen regarding interest from overseas clubs and Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs.

However, it appears the Bafana Bafana midfielder will continue his journey in Portugal, focusing on his contributions to Tondela’s campaign in the top division.

The KZN academy graduate’s return promises to improve the squad as they prepare for the challenges ahead in the Primeira Liga.

The 26-year-old midfielder who hails from Ulundi recently returned to the field after recovering from injury, which had sidelined him since September of last year.

He sustained this injury while representing Bafana Bafana during their 3-2 away victory against South Sudan in an AFCON qualifying match.

His agent, Manuel Tomas, recently told FARPost that Chiefs enquired about the midfield grafter in December. However, he clarified that Amakhosi have not yet made a formal offer.

“In December, yes, we received some calls from the club [Chiefs],” Tomas told FARPost. “We don’t know [what’s going to happen], but it’s football. But we don’t have an official offer from Chiefs for Sithole.

“It was just the talks with the club and the people from the club, but they haven’t made an official offer.”
