Richards Bay FC chairman Sfiso ‘Jomo’ Biyela has revealed where the club is likely to play its home games next season.

The Natal Rich Boyz moved to the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi four seasons ago due to renovations at their home venue, the uMhlathuze Sports Complex.

Richards Bay were still in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. The uMhlathuze Sports Complex could not meet the PSL standards.

The renovation of the Richards Bay-based stadium has faced significant delays over the past few years, preventing the club from returning to their home ground as planned in previous or the current season.

However, Biyela has expressed the club’s belief that their home matches will finally be hosted at the uMhlathuze Sports Complex next season.

BIYELA ON WHERE RICHARDS BAY WILL HOST HOME GAMES NEXT SEASON

“You will remember that this is our fourth season playing in Durban, it’s been a while since we played in Richards Bay,” said Biyela.

“We believe that next season we will be able to play at home because we also wish to play at home.

“We want to thank the players for the way they played this season, their unit in the team and the technical team for what they have done this season.

“One has to thank the senior players who are helping our youngsters with their experience. Without the senior players, our youngsters wouldn’t be able to adapt and understand the demands of the games.”

Richards Bay concluded their home campaign with a 0-0 draw against Golden Arrows on Saturday at the King Zwelithini Stadium. Their next fixture is an away match against SuperSport United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday, 20 May.

“There’s no pressure anymore, we’re no longer playing for the top eight, we’re playing for fun,” Biyela added.

“If the top eight chance still presents itself, we will grab it. But for now, the SuperSport match is important than any game.

“You will remember that they stole our three points here in Umlazi.”
