Durban City FC chairman Farouk Kadodia has broken his silence amid promotion uncertainty, addressing the issues surrounding protests against his Motsepe Foundation Championship side.

The KZN side finished the season on top of the log but were not presented with a trophy on Sunday. This is after JDR Stars lodged a protest over the eligibility of Saziso Magawana. They allege that Magwana was not properly registered after his move to Durban City from Marumo Gallants.

Meanwhile, Cape Town Spurs, who, as it stands, are relegated to the SAFA ABC Motsepe League, also lodged a protest before their match against Durban City at Athlone Stadium on Sunday. CT Spurs lost 1-0 to the KZN side and were subsequently demoted to the amateur league.

FAROUK KADODIA INSISIT THE CLUB DID NO WRONG IN SAZISO MAGAWANA CASE

“I have no doubts about it, to be honest with you. Throughout all the years I have served in football and in all other cases, I can provide anyone with all the controversial cases. There was a big case in 2022, and people have forgotten about that,โ€ said Kadodia.

“They [fans] need to understand that we haven’t done anything wrong. We followed all the right procedures of the PSL and got the player registered, and, more importantly, right now, it is a bitter pill for the players to swallow.

“This is why they came out strongly. They also felt like these people want to stop us. We will go on the field on Sunday and prove everybody wrong,โ€ he added, referring to the club supporters.

Meanwhile, Magawana started the match for Durban City on Sunday. He only missed two matches the whole season, but featured in all matches in which the club collected points.

The PSL is set to deliver a verdict on Tuesday that will determine the fate of both Durban City and Cape Town Spurs. Should the ruling confirm Durban City’s promotion to the Betway Premiership, CT Spurs will face relegation.

However, a change to the log table could see CT Spurs avoid relegation, with Durban City potentially missing out on promotion and even facing relegation themselves.
