Prosport International CEO Mike Makaab has confirmed that Mamelodi Sundowns have made a decision to retain the services of goalkeeper Jody February beyond the 2024/25 season.
February was among the players whose future at Sundowns was uncertain as the current Betway Premiership season drew to a close.
The talented shotstopper’s current one-year contract with Sundowns, initially set to expire in June 2025, was extended after the club exercised an option at the beginning of the previous season.
Initially, the 29-year-old joined Sundowns in 2018 on a five-year deal from Ajax Cape Town [Cape Town Spurs]. Upon his arrival at Downs, February was sent out on loan to teams such as Cape Umoya United, Moroka Swallows, and AmaZulu FC.
February was recalled from loan at the start of last season and only managed to make one appearance in all competitions.
The former SA junior international has seen an improvement in his game-time after featuring in seven matches in all competitions, conceding five goals while keeping three clean sheets.
WHAT MAKAAB SAID ABOUT FEBRUARY’S FUTURE AT SUNDOWNS

Mike Makaab has told FARPost that February has extended his stay with Masandawana for another year, putting all the speculations around his future to bed.
“Jody February will stay with Mamelodi Sundowns beyond the current season. He signed a one-year extension with the club,” Makaab said.
“This is an opportunity for Jody to fight for his place in the starting line-up at Sundowns. This season, he got some minutes, and it’s something to build on going forward. But also, we have to thank Sundowns for showing faith in him once again because he is a talented player.”
The Cape Town-born goalie is competing with Ronwen Williams, Reyaad Pieterse, Denis Onyango, and the young Sanele Tshabalala for a place between the sticks.
