A highly-rated teenager from Mamelodi Sundowns, who joined the club two years ago, has completed his move to Stellenbosch FC.
The 17-year-old midfielder, Lizalise Mahumza, who joined Sundowns in 2023, is beginning his journey with the Winelands outfit.
Mahumza previously spent two years at Cape Town City FC before moving to Masandawana on a long-term deal. The Citizens discovered him during the 2021 AmaMpondo Sports Foundation Tournament in Lusikisiki, in the Ingquza Hill Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape Province, when he was just 14 years old.
In a competitive scouting battle that included Sundowns, Cape Town Spurs, and SuperSport United, City ultimately secured his services.
Two years after joining the Citizens, he moved to Sundowns, who were reportedly tracking the left-footed defensive midfielder. He spent a year at Masandawana, featuring for the club’s Under-19 team.

The player’s management team has facilitated a move after just one season. They felt his trajectory into senior team football would be quicker at Stellies. Mahumza is recognised as one of the most promising talents in youth football.
As a versatile player who can also utilise his right foot, Mahumza will be looking to further develop his skills with Stellies. The latter is a club known for promoting young talent.
The Winelands-club is known to have an impressive synergy between the club’s academy and senior team. This is evidenced by the influx of players who’ve been promoted from their youth ranks.
Some of the players who came through the club’s youth structures include Jayden Adams, now at Mamelodi Sundowns, and Devin Titus, who has had an impressive season.
Mahumza will be hoping to break into the first team and begin his professional football journey at the Cape Town outfit.
