Pirates trigger two-year option on Nkosinathi Sibisi’s contract

Orlando Pirates have triggered a two-year option on the contract of one of their key defenders, Nkosinathi Sibisi, as they prepare for the new 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.

The hardworking defender, Sibisi, has formed an integral part of the Pirates team that chased all competitions on offer in the 2024/25 season, which is drawing to a close.

Sibisi has been a regular starter at Pirates, forming a centre-back pairing with players such as Thabiso Sesane, Olisa Ndah, Tapelo Xoki, and Mbekezeli Mbokazi as the club battled with injuries, mostly at the back.

The Bafana Bafana international has featured in 39 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals in the league. With the current season ending this month, Sibisi’s contract at Pirates was set to expire in June 2025 after signing a three-year deal with an option to renew for a further two years from Golden Arrows.

The KZN-born defender has been with the Buccaneers for three seasons, having joined the club in 2022 after impressing in Arrows colours.

In his stint with Pirates, Sibisi won three successive MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cup trophies under the guidance of Jose Riveiro, who has since left the club.

The Spanish coach requested an early release from his contract with the Sea Robbers as he’s reportedly on his way to join Egyptian giants Al Ahly. Riveiro was supposed to step down from his coaching role at Pirates when his contract expires next month.

Meanwhile, the Ghosts are expected to undergo major changes in playing personnel when they welcome a new coach to replace Riveiro. FARPost has already reported that the Soweto giants have signed Nkosikhona Ndaba from Richards Bay FC and Masindi Nemtajela from Marumo Gallants.
