Head coach of Motsepe Foundation Championship runners-up Orbit College FC, Pogiso Makhoye, has shared his thoughts on the PSL DC case involving ‘winners’ Durban City FC.
Durban City, formerly known as Maritzburg United, finished at the summit of the log standings of the second-tier league following the conclusion of the season on Sunday.
But the KZN side was not crowned champions and handed the trophy as there is a pending PSL Dispute Resolution Chamber [DRC] case, which is set to sit on Tuesday. The case comes after JDR Stars lodged a protest against Durban City over the eligibility of their player Saziso Magawana.
They allege that Magawana was improperly registered following his move from Marumo Gallants to Durban City. JDR Stars argues Magawana’s clearance should have been issued by Leruma United, who bought the status from Gallants, as the latter had officially taken over the Moroka Swallows status by the time the player moved to Durban City.
Cape Town Spurs, who were relegated to the SAFA ABC Motsepe League, also lodged a protest against the club on Sunday.
ORBIT COLLEGE DO NOT WANT TO ENTERTAIN THE PSL DC CASE INVOLVING DURBAN CITY
In a case where Durban City are found guilty and docked points, Orbit College could secure automatic promotion to the Betway Premiership. But Makhoye insists his club is only focused on the upcoming playoffs and nothing else.
“No, I am away from that. I don’t know anything. We are being realistic. We want to go to the playoffs, and we have to be ready for the playoffs. It’s another four games to go,” Makhoye told FARPost.

POGISO MAKHOYE FOCUSING ON THE UPCOMING PROMOTION PLAYOFFS TO SECURE PROMOTION
“I do read [reports on the case], but I don’t want to entertain those things. You leave the boardroom to the boardroom people. I mean, football must be won on the field, and we will love to win it on the field, so we couldn’t win it on the field.
“But I am happy we got another chance to make sure that we get promoted. You don’t want to go to the boardroom staff and lose sight and focus. Now, when you need to motivate your players for the playoffs, they will be down. So we know what we want. We have achieved it, which was to go to the playoffs and try to win three games.
Meanwhile, the PSL DC will hear the matter on Tuesday, with a verdict expected to be announced thereafter.
