Kaizer Chiefs defender Dillan Solomons has addressed the speculation regarding coach Nasreddine Nabi’s potential departure from the club, shedding light on how the players are responding to the situation.
Just a day after Amakhosi ended their decade-long trophy drought with a Nedbank Cup final victory over rivalsย Orlando Pirates in Durban, reports emerged suggesting that Nabi and his technical team may be leaving the club at the end of the season.
Indications are that Chiefsโ management is not fully satisfied with the team’s league performance. However, Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr and marketing director Jessica Motaung stated that Nabi would be afforded sufficient time to build a competitive squad.
Nabi has consistently maintained that the club’s management has given him a two-to-three-season timeline to develop the team. He joined Chiefs on a two-year contract, with the dual goals of ending the long-standing trophy drought and laying the groundwork for a formidable team. He has successfully ended the trophy drought and also guided the team to qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup.
Recently, Nabi expressed his disappointment with the exit rumours. He labelled them as “bad news” that has caused confusion within the club. He appealed to journalists for respect, highlighting his own high regard for the media. The former AS FAR Rabat mentor revealed that several other African teams have contacted him inquiring about his services in light of these persistent rumours.

SOLOMONS ON NABI EXIT RUMORS: โWE CONTROL WHAT WE CAN CONTROLโ
Amakhosi defender Solomons has acknowledged the persistent chatter on Nabi’s reported departure, emphasising that the team’s focus remains on their responsibilities.
โObviously, people have been talking. But there is nothing we can do about people who are talking,” said Solomons at the Kaizer Chiefs Village on Wednesday.
โWe just have to do what we can do, and that is coming to training, putting in the work, and showing the coach that we are here to work. And thatโs all we can do. As a team, we can only control what we can control. If people are going to talk outside, that’s their opinion, and we will see.
“We donโt know what is going on. All we can do is come here [Naturena] and put in the work”
The Soweto giants are fighting tooth and nail to secure a top-eight finish. They aim to avoid missing out on the MTN8 for the second consecutive campaign. Chiefs’ fate hinges on their final game of the campaign on Saturday at FNB Stadium.
A victory against Polokwane City FC would guarantee their spot in next season’s top eight competition.
