The PSL Disciplinary Committee has issued a ruling on the case involving Motsepe Foundation Championship log leaders Durban City FC, relegated Cape Town Spurs, and JDR Stars.
Durban City appeared before the DC on Tuesday afternoon following a protest lodged by JDR Stars and Cape Town Spurs. This is regarding the eligibility of midfielder Saziso Magawana.
JDR Stars and CT Spurs allege that Magawana was improperly registered following his move from Marumo Gallants to Durban City. They argued that the player needed clearance from Leruma United, as that club had bought Gallants’ status.
At the time of Magawana’s move to Durban City, Gallants had already purchased the status from Moroka Swallows.
MOTSEPE FOUNDATION CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY PRESENTATION DELAYED
The case also meant that the league delayed the trophy presentation on Sunday after Durban City beat Cape Town Spurs 1-0 at Athlone Stadium. Durban City finished the league at the top with 58 points from 30 matches, five points above second-placed Orbit College FC.

Despite the promotion uncertainty, Durban City chairman Farouk Kadodia remained confident that they did nothing wrong with Magawana’s registration.
“I have no doubts about it, to be honest with you. They need to understand that we haven’t done anything wrong. We followed all the right procedures of the PSL and got the player registered,” he told journalists.
WHAT IS THE OUTCOME OF THE PSL DC REGARDING DURBAN CITY?
This publication has established that the DC dismissed the case brought by JDR Stars due to a lack of merit. The PSL DC dismissed JDR Stars’ protest with costs, ruling that Durban City’s registration of Magawana was valid. The DC also found no wrongdoing in his being fielded against JDR Stars.
The ruling means Durban City will make a return to the Betway Premiership for the upcoming season, with Cape Town Spurs relegated to the ABC Motsepe League.
Meanwhile, Orbit College and Casric Stars will be involved in the PSL Promotional/Relegation Play-offs. They will wait for the team that finishes 15th in the Betway Premiership.
However, CT Spurs’ protest concerning the same player was initially scheduled for Tuesday evening but was postponed to Wednesday at the Urban Warriors’ request, as they sought to present a witness.
