Highly-rated SA coach Rulani Mokwena has shed light on his future, just a few days after cutting ties with Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club.

On Tuesday, 20 May 2025, Wydad officially announced the departure of the former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor, having previously granted Mokwena special leave late in April this year.

The reason to grant Mokwena leave in the first place was due to a string of poor results, which led Wydad to finish the season without any trophies.

During his tenure, Mokwena oversaw 27 league matches for Wydad, achieving 11 wins, 12 draws, and four defeats. Wydad concluded the season in third place with 54 points from 30 games. He was absent for the final three matches while on leave, all of which Wydad won, securing their return to CAF interclub competition.

The Botola Pro League was won by RS Berkane, who topped the log standings with 70 points after 30 matches.

Mokwena also missed out in the Throne Cup, where they were eliminated in the Round of 16.
