Kaizer Chiefs defender Edmilson Dove has offered a candid assessment of the club’s current situation, openly admitting that they have “failed to deliver” as players.
Amakhosi have been on an underwhelming run of form in the Betway Premiership as they fight their way into the top eight. Chiefs are lying in position nine on the log standings with 31 points after 27 matches played.
This past weekend, the Glamour Boys missed an opportunity to move into the top eight after playing to a 1-1 draw against Sekhukhune United at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.
In recent months, Chiefs have found it tough to claim maximum points after going eight matches without winning a league match.
The Naturena-based side’s last victory came on March 4th, a 1-0 win over Magesi FC at FNB Stadium. Now, with their final match of the season against Polokwane City FC at FNB Stadium on Saturday, Chiefs will be pushing hard for a top-eight finish to qualify for next season’s MTN8, a competition they missed out on last campaign.
EDMILSON DOVE GIVES BLUNT TAKE ON CHIEFS’ POSITION ON THE LOG

Reflecting on Chiefs’ struggles in the league, the Mozambican international has given a blunt take, suggesting that there’s no time to build at a big club like the Soweto giants.
“I’ve said this before, Chiefs is one of the big clubs on the African continent, and when you come here, there is no time to build or find yourself, especially in the position that we find ourselves in,” Dove said.
“So in my opinion, at some point we failed the club because we failed to deliver, but that’s why we’re given chances to fight each and every day. Every opportunity we have at this point, we can’t dwell on the past. We have to look forward and see what’s ahead of us.
“I think we should have had a better season. That is the sentiment amongst the group, now we just want to focus on what we want to do, and that’s qualifying for the top eight.”
