Former Moroka Swallows and SuperSport United striker James Chamanga has officially retired from football at the age of 45 after a 25-year illustrious career.
Chamanga is well-known for scoring the most goals in a single match in the SA elite league when he netted five goals for Swallows against Platinum Stars in a 6-2 victory in 2007.
That record has since been matched by Iqraam Rayners, who also scored five goals during Stellenbosch FCโs 5-0 win against Polokwane City FC in April last year. Chamanga has also played for clubs such as Dalian Shide and Liaoning FC in China.
He has been playing for Zambian Premier League side Red Arrows since 2019, before he announced his retirement last week. Chamanga was part of the Zambia National Team that won the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON].
JAMES CHAMANGA REFLECTS ON HIS CAREER AFTER THE DECISION TO RETIRE
โI am happy and excited. Itโs sad somehow because I will miss the celebrations. But I am excited and so glad of people that gave me a chance [to play football],โ he told journalists in Zambia.

โIt has been an exciting journey, a journey which seemed impossible. But when I came to a conclusion and looked at my retirement, I can say I am a testimony of what God can do.
โI believe in myself. It was not easy. I spent many sleepless nights and difficult moments as a young boy who was excited and wanting to explore the world,โ he added.
