Arrows beat Sekhukhune as SuperSport United’s woes mount

Richards Bay vs SuperSport United

Golden Arrows put up a fine show to beat Sekhukhune United, as SuperSport United dropped into the relegation play-offs slot after losing to Richards Bay FC.

Arrows, who have had an equally turbulent season hoped to beat Sekhukhune United at Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday afternoon to end their winless run. On the other hand, Sekhukhune were coming from a 1-1 draw with Kaizer Chiefs.

Deservedly, Arrows got ahead via Trésor Yamba’s own goal after 12 minutes. However Babina Noko equalised on the stroke of half-time through Ngoanamello Rammala.

Sekhukhune were reduced to ten-man when Mokete Mogaila was red-carded after 37 minutes of play. Ultimately that was a turning point in their game plan, though they were deadlocked at half-time.

Nhlanhla Zwane doubled Arrows’ lead on the 56th minute as they took control of the affair at a critical moment. Sbonelo Cele made it three for Arrows after 65 minutes.

Sikhosonke Langa grabbed Sekhukhune’s second goal after 86 minutes but that was not enough to salvage a point. Arrows are now on 12th position with 30 points after 27 matches.

That was all Richards Bay needed to win with SuperSport United dropping into 15th position.

Meanwhile the Mother City Derby between Cape town City FC and Stellenbosch FC which was played at the Cape Town Stadium ended 0-0.

Cape Town City came into this one hoping to keep their winning formula after their win over Polokwane City last time out.

Stellies on the other hand were high in terms of confidence that they would maintain their decent run and maintain their top five spot. As a result, CT City moved into 14th placed with 27 points.

Having last won on 20 April 2024, Magesi FC came into their match against Marumo Gallants, with springs on their steps hoping to tame their opponents. The match was played at the Seshego Stadium.

Sekela Sithole thrust Gallants ahead after 55 minutes of play. However Mcedi Vandala restored parity after the hour mark. Magesi are now 13th on the log table with 30 points after 27 matches while Gallants are in 10th place after their allocated 28 games with 32 points.
