Just two days after Pyramids FC striker Fiston Mayele declined to discuss talk linking him to Kaizer Chiefs, FARPost looks at his contract status and the Egyptian club’s stance.

Mayele is poised to play a crucial role in Pyramids’ upcoming clash against Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League final, scheduled to take place at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria on Saturday. Kick-off is 3PM.

The Congolese forward was linked to a potential move to Chiefs due to his relationship with coach Nasreddine Nabi at the start of the season. Despite the speculation, no official talks occurred between the two clubs.

Mayele and Nabi’s rapport goes back to their time at Young Africans in Tanzania, where the Tunisian coach initially signed the 30-year-old striker from AS Vita early in his tenure. After spending a season in Morocco coaching AS FAR Rabat, Nabi took charge of Amakhosi for the 2024/25 season.

Interestingly, the Pyramids striker confirmed this week that he had a conversation with Nabi in December last year.

“Yes, it’s true. The coach Nabi was in contact with me in December. But this is not the right moment to talk about it. I am focused on the final [CAF Champions League]. “I want to stay focused on the final and finish the season, then I can talk, but at the moment, this is not the priority for now,” Mayele was quoted by SABC Sport.

WHAT IS FISTON MAYELE’S CONTRACT STATUS AND PYRAMIDS’ STANCE

Now in his second season in Egypt, Mayele penned a three-year deal when he joined the club. This means that at the end of June, he will have a full year left on his contract.

Since joining Pyramids FC, he has proven to be a key figure. In his first season, the imposing striker showcased his scoring prowess with 21 goals in 43 appearances, along with five assists. This season, he has maintained his scoring form, registering 16 goals and two assists in 35 matches.

“He’s contracted to Pyramids until June 2026, but the club intends to extend his stay. They’re not keen to entertain any offers as they have no alternatives. It’s highly unlikely that any club would acquire him in the next year. The club is taking good care of him. He’s one of their highest earners,” a source who was involved in the Mayele to Pyramids deal told FARPost.

Meanwhile, Mayele is expected to lead Pyramids in their upcoming clash against Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League final at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday.

“I am happy to be here and try to help the team win. I was happy to score during the last match against Orlando Pirates. I am happy to play in the final, the first final for the club in the CAF Champions League. I can’t say I will score, but for sure I want to help the team play well, and that’s why I am here,” he added.
