In-demand Zim marksman reveals his PSL inspiration

Zimbabwe's leading goalscorer Washington Navaya

In-demand Zimbabwe PSL leading goalscorer Washington Navaya has named the Betway Premiership star that has made him fond of the league.

At least six Betway Premiership clubs are knocking on Navaya’s door, setting the stage for a potentially interesting chase for his services.

Navaya’s goal return has been impressive, having scored eight times in 12 matches. Billy Veremu of MWOS FC is his closest rival with seven goals to his tally.

At this point, it is not hard to imagine Navaya reaching the 20-goal mark. The late Norman Maroto, back in 2010, was the last striker to achieve such a feat.

While his current club, TelOne FC, are a modest outfit based in the city of Gweru, Navaya has been a cut above the rest. Navayaโ€™s contract with TelOne expires on 31 December 2025.

ZIM’S PSL LEADING GOALSCORER NAVAYA DRAWS INSPIRATION FROM RELEBOHILE MOFOKENG

Moreover, he has won the March and April monthly awards and is in contention to account for the May award. In an interview with FARPost, Navaya said Orlando Pirates forward Relebohile Mofokeng has been his source of inspiration.

Though, he is six years older than Mofokeng, Navaya says he has gained a great deal of inspiration from the rising Pirates star. Additionally, Navaya said he looks up to Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns legend Teko Modise.

“For me, it’s Relebohile Mofokeng because at his age, he is doing wonders in the PSL. It’s so inspiring to me,” Navaya told FARPost.

“And Teko Modise is the former player that I always look up to. He was one of the deadliest in the league. All I can say is that he is technically gifted, and it’s something I look up to.”

It remains to be seen which club Navaya will join, considering the level of interest he has attracted. Navaya was one of the key players at Highlanders FC during former Jose Mourinho’s assistant coach Baltermar Britoโ€™s time in 2023.

Meanwhile, he is also raising his hand high for a Zimbabwe National Team call-up. Zimbabwe will participate in the forthcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] to be staged in Morocco.
