Experienced football agent Mike Makaab has confirmed that Mamelodi Sundowns have offered defender Divine Lunga a one-year contract extension.
The talented left-back will spend another season with Masandawana after proving to be in the future plans of head coach Miguel Cardoso. Lunga joined Sundowns in 2021 from the KZN side Golden Arrows, and he struggled for game-time in his early days at the club.
The Zimbabwean international was sent back on loan to Arrows for the 2022/23 season to get the much-needed playing minutes. Lunga returned from his loan spell ahead of the 2023/24 season to fight for his position in the left-back position under the then-head coach Rulani Mokwena. Last season, he made 13 appearances across all competitions.
In the current campaign, the 29-year-old has seen improvement in his contribution at Sundowns after featuring in 17 games in all competitions, playing a crucial role in defence as Downs reached the CAF Champions League final.
DIVINE LUNGA WILL REMAIN AT SUNDOWNS FOR ANOTHER SEASON
The Tshwane giants played out to a 1-1 draw against Egyptian club Pyramids FC in the first-leg of the Champions League at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday, 24 May. The second-leg scheduled is for 01 June at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo.
With Sundowns preparing for the FIFA Club World Cup in the coming weeks, they have extended Lunga’s contract. His existing contract was coming to an end on the 30th of June.
Divine Lunga’s agent, Mike Makaab, told FARPost that the talented wing-back will remain at Sundowns for another season.
“I can tell you that Devine Lunga will stay with Mamelodi Sundowns for another season. They have extended his contract by one year,” Makaab said.
The Brazilians have also finalised new one-year deals for goalkeeper Jody February and defender-cum-midfielder Mothobi Mvala.
