After eight years of being overlooked, Magesi FC goalkeeper and captain Elvis Chipezeze has finally received his Zimbabwe National Team call-up.
Chipezeze has been a top performer for the Betway Premiership outfit, having featured in 29 matches for Dikwena tลกa Meetse across all competitions.
In addition, he has managed to keep 10 clean sheets in the 25 Betway Premiership matches he played for the team in the 2024/25 season.
Having initially led the clean sheets charts, the 35-year-old has fallen down the parking order. He is now behind Mamelodi Sundowns‘ Ronwen Williams and Sipho Chaine. Williams and Chaine are tied on 11 clean sheets apiece.

MAGESI GOALKEEPER AND CAPTAIN CHIPEZEZE BACK IN ZIMBABWE NATIONAL TEAM FOLD
Deservedly, Chipezeze, who had been overlooked by the Zimbabwe head coach, Michael Nees, has finally been given a chance to prove himself once more.
The former Baroka FC goalminder has been drafted into The Warriors’ team to face Niger and Burkina Faso. Additionally, the international friendlies are scheduled for the 6th and 10th of June, respectively.
They are preparing for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] finals to be staged in Morocco in December. And Chipezeze has been drafted along with Marumo Gallantsโ Washington Arubi, who has been Zimbabwe’s number one.
Marley Tavaziva of Brentford B completes the goalkeeping department. Undoubtedly, this is a key moment for Chipezeze to win the coach and the nation’s trust after his horrific show during the 2019 AFCON edition.
Meanwhile, Daniel Msendami of Marumo Gallants returns to The Warriors after missing out in the last two games.
Defender Divine Lunga has been overlooked as he will be participating in the FIFA Club World Cup with Sundowns. Lunga was recently rewarded with a one-year contract extension for his consistently good performances for Masandawana.
Moreover, SuperSport United forward Terrence Dzvukamanja has been left out as his team is fighting relegation. Dzvukamanja played a pivotal role in Zimbabwe’s qualification for the 2025 AFCON tournament.
Other notably missing players include captain Marvellous Nakamba, vice-captain Marshall Munetsi, Andy Rinomhota and Knowledge Musona.
