One of Mamelodi Sundowns’ highly-rated goalkeepers faces yet another decisive moment as his contract with the Tshwane giants is set to expire at the end of the season.

The serial Betway Premiership winners boast one of the strongest goalkeeping departments in terms of both experience and talent.

Bafana Bafana skipper Ronwen Williams headlines the cast, which also has Dennis Onyango, Jody February, Sanele Tshabalala and Reyaad Pieterse.

At Sundowns, Ronwen Williams has played the highest number of matches, with 35 appearances across all competitions. In addition, Onyango has played 13 times across all competitions, with 10 of the appearances coming in the Betway Premiership.

Moreover, February played four times throughout the season. Luckily, the 29-year-old has been retained by the club ahead of next season. February played for Ajax Cape Town [now Cape Town Spurs] before being loaned to Cape Umoya United, Moroka Swallows, and AmaZulu FC.

Masandawana also have Ugandan Ismail Watenga, who is on loan at Durban outfit, Golden Arrows. Watenga’s loan deal expires at the end of June 2025. It is yet to be determined whether Watenga will return to his parent club when his loan spell ends. In addition, there is Ricardo Goss, who is also on loan at SuperSport United.

SUNDOWNS SET TO DECIDE PIETERSE’S FUTURE

However, it has emerged that one of the goalkeepers, Pieterse, faces a critical moment as his future will be determined this week. His agent, Gary Cassisa told FARPost that the club will determine Pieterse’s fate by the end of the week.

Pieterse has been sidelined throughout the season in all competitions. His contract runs until 30 June 2025, with a two-year option to extend.

It remains to be seen if the club will exercise their option ahead of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.

The 33-year-old joined Sundowns from SuperSport United in 2018 and has played just 12 league games for the club since his arrival. He has not featured this season.
