Recently retired goal-poacher James Chamanga has shared details of the call he made to Iqraam Rayners after the Mamelodi Sundowns striker equalled his 16-year record in South Africa.

Rayners equalled Chamanga’s record of scoring five goals in a single PSL match while he was at Stellenbosch FC last season.

The former Zambian international had set the record back in 2007 playing for Moroka Swallows. In the same season, Chamanga finished as the leagueโ€™s top goal scorer with 14 goals.

Last week, he announced his retirement from football at the age of 45. During his time in South Africa, Chamanga played for the likes of Bush Bucks, SuperSport United and Swallows.

JAMES CHAMANGA CELEBRATE MAMELODI SUNDOWNS STAR FOR HUGE MILESTONE

“The record was meant to be broken. Yes, it was awesome for me to be holding on to the record. But I am not the kind of person who always wants to be celebrated, so even when he scored the five goals and equalled my record.

โ€œI even sent him a video and made sure that I found his contacts and called him just to congratulate him because it’s someone who has done well. I know we are equal, but his [record] is current. So I was happy and that’s who I am to celebrate with others,” added Chamanga.
